The histological distribution of vitamin C contained in root crops was ascertained using the tissue of carrot with thick phloem. The histochemical observation was performed by treating the tissue of it with silver nitrate solution, then the amount of vitamin C contained in various tissues were determined respectively. The results obtained were as follows. The amount of vitamin C in root of carrot had such a large histological difference as radish. Generally speaking, the largest amount of vitamin C was contained in and around the vascular bundle including the cambium where the cell division is active, while only a small amount was contained in the parenchyma where the vital phenomenon is inactive. Besides,the histological distribution of dehydroascorbic acid was similar to that of total vitamin C.
