We have ecperienced a case of metachronous cancer which developed in the thoracic esophagus 19 months after a total pancreatectomy for pancreatic carcinoma. A suggicient preoperative evaluation was made, and total thoracic wsophafectomy was performd. Thirty eight months have passed sinve thesecond operation, and this patient shows no signs of recuttence and is leading an ordinary life, administering insulin injections by himself. Casesof metachronous cancers involving oancreatic and esophageal carcinomas are ectremely rare. Our cases is presumed to be the first in which a thoracic esophagenctomy was performed after a total pancreatectomy for panvreatic cancer.
