Serum SCC and NSE levels were determined in 20 normal contents and 64 patients, including 41 cases of primary lung cancer, 16 case of benign pulmonary disease and 7 cases of other malignant disease. Both SCC and NSE were significantly elevated in cases with lung cancer. Especially SCC was elevated in cases with squamous cell carcinoma. In addition, the combination of serum SCC and NSE yielded high positive diagnosis of lung cancer. Serial measurement of serum SCC and NSE showed an excellent correlation between serum levels and clinical course in several cases. Serum SCC and NSE determination seems to be a valuable tool for evalution of clinical course of lung cancer.
